Question regarding toothed wheel

Has anyone setup MSII or know if it will work with a 100-1 toothed flywheel

Image

the flywheel is on the left, as well will the two larger teeth make any difference?

I have a 1981 928S with a 1986 engine in it, this engine uses a hall sensor on a 100-1 flywheel arrangement with the missing tooth being 90 deg BTDC, however this ring is just a press fit and can be removed, or slid to a new orientation,

I could remove it and have a custom ring made with X # of teeth, but if you have ever replaced a dual disc clutch on these cars you would know it is not my first option[/url]

lizard,

Yes, and no.

The yes's:

- in theory, there's no problem with the 100-1 wheel,
- in practice, on a bench, this works fine, I just tried it from 800 to 5000 rpm on the latest beta code without problems.

The no's:

- the beta code has some glitches at the moment, and it's hard to say how soon these will be sorted (Al is working very hard on it),
- the number of teeth must work for the number of ignition events you need. For an 8 cylinder 4-stroke, you need 4 events per revlution, so 25 works fine (it wouldn't work for a 6 cylinder, for example),
- the moe teeth you have, the more of a load there is on the processor, which may limit maximum rpm and maximum flash burn rpm (for example, in the latest beta code, 6000 rpm does not work with a 100-1 wheel - this will likely improve as the code is fixed).

I was about to return your PM. And no im not Rich S :p

The divider im using wont work on the 100-1 flywheel you have there. It would "work" but the missing tooth would throw it off and you wouldnt get an accurate signal to the MS.

That one on the right looks like a 944 S2 or 968 flywheel. Can it be swapped in?

lol, alright thanks guys, I havent purchased the MS board yet, so hopefully when I get it the code will be out of beta.

the wheel in the right is from an 87 S4, I may be able to get my hands on the S4 ring and pry the old one off, but getting the dual disk clutch off isnt fun and when I go back in there I am going to be replacing the discs and a few other parts, and I will likely be doing that once I have my twin turbos setup and running. Hence the need for the MS.

Arent you going to need a better stronger clutch for the TTs anyway? Why not upgrade the clutch in advance and do the ring?

the factory dual disc clutch is good upto about 500RWHP, and I have no signs of slipping and the discs are still ok,
I want to install the turbos first and get there system working,
I will then install the MS and get it tuned, I will then upgrade the clutch at that time,
the reason for that order is boost levels, if I upgrade the clutch right away and install MS right away I will end up turning up the boost too fast, lol
