microsquirt purchase?

Post by wildwestsydney »

What are the options for a microsquirt purchase. Does it only come prebuilt or can one kit build? Who do I contact for purchase? I am looking to retrofit my 1998 dr 350 from a CV caburetor to fuel injection. From what I have read so far it seems like a MS product should work. I am interested in the micrsquirt due to its small size. Any info would be great.

Thanks

Sam,

MicroSquirt will only be offered fully assembled, as far as I understand. This is because the SMT components are difficult to package, solder, troubleshoot, and repair, and there wouldn't be much savngs over having it machine assembled.

They will be available from the distributors, see: http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mintro.htm#group

Sam,

I haven't heard about pricing, Bruce (or one or more of the distributors) might comment.

Pricing in the past has been suggested at around the same cost as an assembled MegaSquirt, or maybe slightly higher.
- Microsquirt Powered 347ci 66 Mustang
- MS1 V3 Powered Ford 351CI V8
- MS2 SMD Powered 307CI Holden V8

It is looking like the MSRP (end-user suggested resale) will be $399.00, this is the assembled Microsquirt unit with populated wiring harness and serial cable (2.5mm to DB-9 cable).

Will MicroSquirt be available as an assembled SMT board only? It would be really great to be able to mount the SMT MicroSquirt on an adapter board (like MegaScott's EEC-IV board) to fit the whole thing in a stock ECU box. My understanding is that some SCCA rules allow for any ECU as long as it fits in the stock box.

I have an adaptor board in the works for uS. The adaptor for Microsquirt will have the serial port and the Map sensor on it. I am waiting in line for particulars to be able to order the Microsquirt bare without any connector or wiring harness so that I can assemble and test it.

Of course I have other developments in the works as well. I just won't announce them until I have an actual product through Beta test. I'm looking at buying a test mule V8 Mustang to prove out the installation without having to rely on a third party.

Yeah right! Any excuse to buy another nice Ford! : ) But I agree it's good to not have to rely on a 3rd party...especially when you're more than capable of doing a top job yourself (as in your case).

I am also very interested in a uS bare board, any chance of some bare boards in the next production run Bruce? You did mention in the past it might be a possibility if there was enough demand. Paying up front before the production run would not be a problem for me and would ensure that you don't lose anything due to the buyer changing their mind.

We should be able to grab a few PCBs before they go thru the reflow process on the next run...
