datalog without PC / RS232 capture - andy ideas?

I want to find some way to do datalogging without a computer attached to the microsquirt (I have a bike, not so much space for a PC...)

My idea is to use some kind of cheap datalogger connected to the stereojack from microsquirt, do some driving to record data, and then afterwards connect the datalogger to computer/megatune and simply playback the recorded data to megatune with "logging enabeled".

Question is: Is it possible to connect a "passive" datalogger to the stereojack, and record just the signals on the rx/tx wires to two different channels, or - does microsquirt need some kind of handshaking/active rx/tx signals from the computer to send a recordable datastream to the jack?

Any advice on datalogging witout a computer is most welcome!

It does need a transmit signal. Would attaching a Palm handheld be an option?

Yes, a palm could be an option. However, I had difficulties finding info on datalogging to palm on the ms website...

Do you have any link to where I find more info on what's possible to do with a palm?

BTW - I do have a serial--> usb adapter. If I hook up just power on the USB adapter (not a computer, just power to the correct pins of the USB plug), will it generate the needed signals for MS to send the datastream?

I've been working with electronics in the past, so building simple circuits can be done. Also has some experience with database programming and other simple programming projects etc, so I can do some "mods" and experimenting here and there if needed.

However, if a palm can do what I need, I guess it's the simplest and cheapest route... I guess that a few years old pda is pretty cheap on ebay...
