Ampseal part number

Post by TheMonkey »

I need to get an Ampseal plug for injector/coil side of sequencer. Mouser has a few 35 pin plugs, and it's not clear the differences, but only one is in stock and available. It's Mouser part number 571-776164-4, mfgr part number 776164-4.

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Tyc ... mK4DsR4qig

Is this the right one? Also, do I only need the terminals when I order the plug, or will it be missing seals or anything else?

thx

Welcome to the world of parts shortages - notice all the 0 availabilities everywhere. The part you show is correct, but it is gray. if you look at the similar link at the bottom, there is a 776164-1 listed that is black in color. That is the one you really want, but only because the color will match, but that is unavailable - est delivery around June. So I would go with the gray if you want to get started.

Actually, if it's the same as for the 23-pin Ampseal, the different colors have different positions for the keys and slots meaning they will only connect with a connector of the opposite sex having the same color. But you can always grind the plastic key in the header or make new slots in the plug.

I assume you'll need contacts. Do you have tooling for it?

Are you sure the color is just cosmetic? According to this datasheet, each color has a different keying.

That might be worth considering using different colors at each end of the Sequencer on production units. Put a black connector on the main end (which is almost the same pinout as a normal Microsquirt) and a different colored connector on the other end so you can't accidentally plug it up backwards (which I managed to do with one prototype).

I agree with Matt on different fits for either end.

I already ordered the gray one, I guess I'll do some modification to make it fit.

Peter- Yeah, I got the crimpers and bunch of pins when I did the BMW unit. I think I read that they were hard to work with, but mine assembled really nicely.

+1 on different connectors

Did you get your tooling from Mouser? What part #'s did you end up getting?

Thanks!

Peter-

pins i used are pn 571-770520-1

the crimpers i got, i *think* i got them from Mouser, but all the little Mouser boxes I see in my stash (with the invoices in them) are the small variety that they wouldn't fit in. I looked at the crimpers i have, there is not a number stamped in them. blue handles, and i'm certain i spent < $30 on them. i soldered all the connections too - sort of belt and suspenders approach.

Ah so these are not the official AMP seal crimpers. I suspected that many open barrel crimpers would do the job well enough. I have several lying around. I think I'll get some pins and have a contest between them.

Thanks!
