I was going to copy mxrob and use the suzuki LT-R450 fuel pump but I can't seem to find one. Been searching for hours on ebay and not finding much. Does anyone have a recommencation for a fuel pump to be used on a 500cc engine?

The only pumps I know about go inside the fuel tank, and you're after an inline one. I've googled, but only seen ones for $199 so far

Most motorcycle in tanks pumps are like the Bosch car ones e.g. Honda Accord 87, but newer generations probably use a different design. There is a thread somewhere, that I bookmarked, and somebody used ones of these in tank pumps and made an aluminium reservoir added to the "petcock" and created an inline equivalent.

I use a Walbro GSL393 160 LPH inline automotive pump on my bevel drive ducati twin. It is not a physically large unit and I had no problems finding somewhere to mount it. I run it on a PWM power supply which measures 7 volts at the pump. Tests show that at this speed the pump flows approx 45 LPH and easily maintains 43 psi. This system has been in service now for nearly three years now without any problems at all.

What do you use for a pressure regulator? What kind of current draw does the pump have and do you have any details on your power supply? I guess maybe I was dreaming thinking I could pick up a pump and regulator for $80 or less?

I use a Magneti Marelli 3 bar pressure regulator which is standard equipment on Ducati 2 valve belt twins using the 45mm throttle bodies. The power for the pump is supplied by a 12VDC motor speed controller which I bought in kit form Jaycar (an Australian electronics retailer). If my memory serves me correctly I think the pump draws around 2 amps at the speed I run it at.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm familiar with Jaycar, I've bought some O2 sensor related gizmos from them. This gives me some ideas on what i could do to cobble something together.

Hi , im also on the hunt for a inline pump , my engine is a 750cc from a 1975 honda CB750 , wont get over 100hp , do not need a big GPH flow . Needs to be inline pump and the smallest possible! Its for a full naked cafe racer project , i want to be able to hide it somehow so size is consent . Also a low amp draw since the bikes charging system is not very powerfull.

The PWD voltage controller is very interesting to control the draw and flow of the pump , i will definately look into it!!

Cycleworks pumps are not too expensive and seems small but cant seem to find an inline pump , they look like the in tank ones

The fuel pump for the Honda TRX Quad is a good and cheap solution. They have two versions, one for the TRX420 and TRX500 and one for the larger TRX, I think it's a 680cc engine. The pump for the 680 version is also used in the Honda cruiser-type motorcycles that have up to 1,300cc engines.

The TRX pump is pretty cheap, $80 for the TRX420 and TRX500 and a little over $100 for the bigger one. The pump is inside a larger aluminum container that acts as a swirl-pot. It also has a sock-type fuel filter and a 50psi pressure regulator built into it.

It isn't small, though. It's about the size of a quart of oil. But if you've got the room it's a very good product.

Why inline, can't you hide it in the tank? Aprilia V twins fits on the underside, and most of it is internal, plus it's around 130 hp or more. I'd seriously consider fitting one inside the tank. Also, as it's a custom, fit the regulator inside the tank too, it's what cars have done with in tank fuel pumps. One advantage of PWM control is no return pipe, but putting the reg in the tank with the pump will do the same too, but it'll increase the power requirements.
