microsquirt and ls1-coils

Post by centauro_ernst »

Hello,

i am starting to setup my microsquirt V3.
first i will check ignition. picture of input-signal is like expected and described.
but spark did not work correct.
power is too low. it is not possible to trigger timing lamp.

engine is moto guzzi V75 breva ie, 2 cyl., 90 degree
microsquirt V3 with newest version
one VR-input
two outputs for 2 LS1 coils (GM / ac delco)

did anyone has an idea wher my spark-power is ?

greetings from germany

Hallo ernst,

Can you "datalog"?
Do you have a .msq file.
it is not possible to trigger timing lamp.
Warum?

Hey Mike,

at the moment i am only turning my engine with starter (and a big battery).

timing-lamp would not triggering, because it did not recogize this low spark.

ernst,
OK, what about posting a .msq (the file you have created in TunerStudio), so folks can check your settings.

You try to start with no plugs in? Have you tried putting LEDs to the coil (IGN1 & IGN2) outputs to check the ignition is working and happening in the right place.
I have read elsewhere the LS1 coils don't like too much dwell, that is dwell < 4.2ms.

Mike

Also try and save a datalog of starting with no plugs.

Hello,

many thanks for answering.

i had a little problem:
3 years ago i decided to build a 'new' guzzi NTX with injection and microsquirt. during this time i discussed everything with my friend.
so i ordered all necessary parts.
but, i regret, that 2 years ago my friend was dead. so i have to do all by myself without any discussion.

you can see: http://www.centauro.de/NTX/V82/V82-START.html

meantime i was at the point, that i can try to start my engine.
but i want to test first correct timing of spark because i suggest, that my necessary angle is not correct.
so i turned my engine with starter, no plugs in but fasten on head, that i can see flashing.
now i want to check timing with my stroboscope.
but i got no lightning and no spark on second coil.
yesterday i found
- a bad figure for my 'tooth-wheel on cam' => corrected, both sparks now working
- my stroboscope has a broken interface for spark-wire => repaired, stroboscope is flashing now

nevertheless i have both requested files available.

greetings from germany

Hallo ernst,
Your project looks interesting. :)

I looked at your .msq and I checked your dwell (original question), which was at 2.9 ms, but you have things a little better now, and getting RPMs!
Looking at your log (.msl), you are only getting RPMs detected for 1 sec or so at a time, your battery could do with charging, vBatt drops to 10V on cranking with no plugs in.
Trigger value is increasingly negative, your "Sync Stat" is not stable, which suggests you have a trigger wheel synching problem.

Have you tried not connecting the coils and seeing if the RPM detected is more stable, to check if you have a settings or noise issue.
What does your trigger wheel set up look like?

Hi again Ernst,

Hope you're having a great holiday, but why are you NOT using "guzzidiag" with a standard ECU. Seems to me, this is configured to work from the factory (Marelli based), and you can change the fuelling and ignition too!
Slightly confused, my brother has just got a "v7 Classic", so I did some digging, and found out about "guzzidiag"

hey mike,

yes, wonderful time on italian beach.

i decided for ms in 2010. then beginning 2013 i got all parts. at that time guzzidiag not present.

now bike is ready and wiring finished.

last chance, if i did not get ms ready, then i will change to original ecu and guzzidiag.

greetings

Hello,

meantime i found problem with ignition. i entered wrong amount of tooth. wrong was 50 with 2 missing, correct was 48 with 2 missing.
now i got correct flash for timing.

next i demaged my valeo starter. always the same, an iron cover loosen and contacted windings of rotor. result is a very slow starter but with highest consumtion. so i changed it to a lucas one. at same time i conected starter with a seperate battery. so normal bike-battery is only for ecu and starter-relais.therefore my voltage is always 12v during test-run.

next i checked to test injectors. i set ecu with tuning into test-mode. injectors are working and working and working and ..... and smelling of fuel.
no possibility to reset ecu to normal mode. always pc-interface going to offline.
solve it with loading again ecu-program.

but no action from engine during starter runs. no bachfire.
and, confusing me, sparks are try.
tested fuel-pump preasure, is ok.

greetings
ernst
