I was wondering how exactly we get the temperature for warm up from an air cooled motorcycle, i was originally thinking oil temperature, but now i am considering head temp. Does anyone have any knowledge on how to set up a head temperature sensor?

It's best to use head temperature, as oil temperature doesn't follow head temperature very well. Air cooled engines can warm up quite quick, and my air cooled Panhard engines, actually run cooler at certain revs, because of the airflow characteristics over the oil sump.

I made an adapter, that clamped to a part of the head (exposed torsion bar valve return covers) and used a standard coolant or oil temperature sensor off a Land Rover. I only chose this one, because it was cheap, and the connector was readily available. If you use a Bosch one, you can get all the resistance/temperature info for calibrating on the net, but most top out at just under 150ºC, a few can run slightly hotter, but in all fairness, you're not really interested in exact temps at this end for WUE.

Thanks for the reply! i will have to look into building something to make that work on my cb750. I have an oil temp sensor all built in already, but i will install a head temp sensor instead for more accurate temperature readings
