Serial connect on bench test of new Microsquirt issues

Post by nzmikec »

Hi all,

Im having issues connecting to a new microsquirt v3. Unit has never been fitted, I'm supplying power, ground and serial pins (TX,RX,GND) only.
I don't seem to be able to connect tunerstudio or any other serial connection.
Using the terminal in tuernerstudio I have confirmed my serial port is working as when the TX and RX pins are jumped together it acts as a loopback. When these pins are reconnected I get nothing from the MS when sending 'S' or using detect in the new project dialog.

I have followed the troubleshooting on this page without joy. http://www.useasydocs.com/details/connect.htm

Is there any way of testing if the unit has booted without connecting all inputs / outputs? if a LED is connected to the warm up led it flashes when power is applied to the MS, is this normal behaviour? I also get 5v on the Vref. Is my unit dead?

Any help would be most appreciated. Kind Regards, Mike.

Further to this, I have been able to connect to the Microsquirt using the 5v serial connections on the board as detailed on this page http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=323337 using a 3.3 - 5v FTDI cable. This leads me to believe that the TTL - RS232 chip on the board is faulty or damaged. Is this a common occurrence? Does anyone know which chip this is so I can test it is receiving power? Should I be contacting my vendor for a return?

Cheers,
Mike.

Failed RS232 chips are pretty rare on current production MicroSquirts, but not unheard of. I'd contact the vendor directly for warranty support.

What Serial to USB adapter are you using? The 10$ TRENDnet one on amazon is by far the best I have found. Have you tried the port check that is on the diy site? https://www.diyautotune.com/support/downloads/ under Other MegaSquirt Related Software? I had issues with a few different cables when connecting to my MS2 I finally ordered the TRENDnet adapter and it worked instantly. Also, Did you adjust the baud rate to 115200 on your port?
