Misc install questions > Noise and skip tooth gear

Post by Designer_Mike »

In no particular order :)

I'm reading a quite a bit about noise....and I want to avoid it!
--Do the injector wires generate much noise?
I plan to use to BIP373 to fire my coils. Does the wiring from the coils to the BIP373s generate a lot of noise? and how close can I put the BIPs to the actual coils and spark plug wires?

I am using a Hall sensor on the crankshaft with a skip-tooth gear (yet to be designed). What is the optimal gap of the gear teeth or a minimum gap? I believe the hall sensor works fine with the bottom of the gap a radius instead of square.
I will run the Hall sensor wires in a sheilded cord to minimize interference.

Which other wiring is particularly sensitive to noise? TPS, O2,
My alternator wiring that goes to a rectifier is going to be close to the other wires. Should I be pro-active and shield the alternator wiring?

I'm trying to as much homework up front avoid learning more than I have to "the hard way"

Neither one generates a ton of noise.

Some Bosch components put them in the coils.

Check the specs for your Hall effect sensor.

TPS is by far the worst.

Shielded rectifier wiring wouldn't hurt.

Thanks Matt.
I have to check again, but I didn't see any install directions with the Hall sensor and the DIY website doesn't give me a lot of particulars about the gear requirements.
I do see a nice drawing and a 3D model but nothing specific about the preferred tooth gap. It is the $34.00 Hall sensor with mounting screw hole (NOT the threaded body version)

Time to do more electrical drawings!....damn, I wish I could remember what all the symbols are but that's why they make referene books :)

We've got the air gap specifications but I'm not 100% sure on the tooth gap. Most of our testing has been with about 5 mm teeth.
